Today is a symbolic day that must focus our attention on celebration as well as stock taking.

It has been just more than 50 years since the first president of a post-colonial African state, Kwame Nkrumah said, "Freedom is not something that one people can bestow on another as a gift. They claim it as their own and none can keep it from them".
