Death by Labour

Farm murders are unacceptable from every perspective. Some are related to crime but others are clearly connected to wage disputes and working conditions, which highlight the need for government to take a stand on farm labour standards.  

While the facts in the recent murder of AWB leader Eugene Terre’blanche are still under investigation, parliament should review the working conditions for labourers on farms across the country.

Jo’burg reels under debt

The city of Johannesburg’s finances are in a very scary state.

The city is essentially bankrupt. Here are the dire facts of the problem:   The current assets verses liabilities ratio has dropped to 0.66:1, which means that only 66 cents of every rand is readily available to the city to pay its bills.
